Become a Foster Hero for 2nd Chance Dog Rescue Dogs

Yes, we call our foster families “heroes”…because if anyone is hero in the world of animal rescue, our fosters are, first and foremost. Why? Because without foster homes, we are severely limited in our ability to save lives!

Sadly the truth is: there is an average of 200 animals brought into the local shelters on a daily basis and more than half of them are euthanized due to the shelters being over-crowded.  So many innocent animals are killed for no other reason than space. By becoming a foster, you can help save lives.

Becoming a foster means that you are providing a short-term home for an animal that may be in need of medical attention, or for an animal that may require one on one attention. Structure is crucial to an animal. Through fostering, you can help teach the fundamental skills desired by a potential permanent adopter.

How long is the foster commitment? Fostering can be as little as a few weeks or as long as several months. We ask that when you become a foster you are committed to the entire duration of the dogs stay while they wait for their forever home.

What are the foster’s responsibilities?  Fosters are asked to provide a short-term home. We expect that the foster treat their “guest” as they do their own dog. Being a Foster means you are providing a dog with unconditional love, a safe environment, ongoing attention and structure. Through love and dedication you will work to provide necessary training and proper care to ensure the dog is healthy and properly socialized when it is time for their forever home.

What are the benefits of being a foster parent?  Satisfaction in knowing that you were able to provide a home for a dog that otherwise may not have been rescued.  Fostering provides the dog with a safe and secure environment, shows them love and gives them a life they may have never known. Fostering provides the opportunity for one on one attention, unconditional love and a stable environment.

What are the costs associated with being a foster? 2nd Chance provides all food, dog necessities (leashes, collars, bedding, crates, treats, toys etc) and covers any necessary medical care costs. The only expense you may incur is the time and attention you provide to a well deserving dog; which is priceless.

I am interested.  How do I sign up?  Please fill out a foster consultation form by clicking on this link and a 2nd Chance volunteer will contact you shortly.
